On 14 December, 2013, the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit was held in Tokyo, at which the “Vision Statement on ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation” (Vision Statement) and the “Implementation Plan of the Vision Statement” (Implementation Plan) were adopted. In addition, Japanese Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe, pledged that his government would establish the JAIF 2.0 totalling USD 100,000,000 to strengthen cooperation for ASEAN integration. Additional contributions have been replenished to this component multiple times, first in year 2019 in the amount of JPY 1,000,000,000 (approximately USD 8,900,000), second and third in year 2020 in the amount of USD 9,500,000 and USD 49,800,000. The JAIF 2.0 supports activities to achieve the objectives of the Vision Statement and its Implementation Plan adopted at the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit. Priority areas under the JAIF 2.0 are: maritime cooperation; disaster management; counter-terrorism and transnational crime including cybercrime; and ASEAN Connectivity. Projects in other areas may also be undertaken if they contribute to the Vision Statement and its Implementation Plan objectives. This component has two types of support: Part A refers to projects that benefit all AMSs, while Part B refers to projects that benefit a Member State/States of ASEAN.
