Courtesy Visit to the Maritime Transport Training Institute (MATRAIN), Marine Department, Ministry of Transport of Malaysia
PORT KLANG, 7 September 2023 – Located in Port Klang, the Maritime Transport Training Institute (MATRAIN) of Malaysia provides Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) training to VTS operators from the ASEAN Member States.
The JAIF Management Team (JMT) visited the Marine Department Headquarters on 7 September 2023 and was briefed about the projects implemented since March 2016 with JAIF funding. The briefing was joined by the Japan Aids to Navigation Association (JANA), which has played a pivotal role as the Co-Implementing Agency to conduct hands-on training and equip VTS operators with necessary skills and knowledge through. To date, as many as 80 certified VTS operators have been fostered by MATRAIN and JANA in partnership with Japan. Currently, the new project Enhanced VTS Operator Training Project for ASEAN (Phase 4) is ongoing.
The JMT staff also visited specialised VTS training rooms set up inside MATRAIN with support from JAIF as well as the facilities and equipment installed in the ASEAN Regional Training Centre for VTS, which was established by the VTS Phase 1 project on the MATRAIN premises.
