JMT Provided Welcome Message on the First Regional Consultation Workshop of PoDIWM-2 Project

QUEZON CITY, 26 April 2023 – The First Regional Consultation Workshop of the JAIF-supported project, Strengthening the Capacity Development for Local Governments in ASEAN to Tackle Microplastics and Water Pollution through Decentralised Wastewater Management Approach (PoDIWM-2), was conducted in a hybrid set-up and had a total of 67 participants, 40 of which participated onsite while 27 participated online via Zoom. The participants represented national and provincial local government units of the Philippines, universities, ASEAN Member States, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).

JAIF Management Team (JMT) Programme Coordinator Zin Aung Swe, in his welcome message, highlighted the progress of the baseline investigations, a regional guidebook, and training modules which is important to have the same understanding and expectation of the project’s implementation. He also emphasised the success of the project is crucial for implementing the ASEAN Framework of Action on Marine Debris, ASEAN Strategic Plan on the Environment, the G20 Osaka Blue Ocean Vision, the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), and the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
