JMT attends the 2018 AICHR Regional Dialogue on the Mainstreaming of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the ASEAN Community
BANGKOK, 3-5 December 2018 – The 2018 AICHR Regional Dialogue on the Mainstreaming of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the ASEAN Community (Accessibility through Universal Design) was held in Bangkok, Thailand on 3-5 December 2018. In addition to discussing the accessibility through Universal Design, the meeting celebrated the launch of the ASEAN Enabling Masterplan 2025: Mainstreaming the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which was adopted by the 33rd ASEAN Summit in Singapore in November 2018. The opening session for the launch of the Masterplan was graced by H.E. Kazuo Sunaga, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN, along with H.E. Gen. Anantaporn Kanjanarat, Minister of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand, H.E. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), and H.E. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community.
The meeting was attended by more than 100 participants, including representatives from the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), Senior Officials Meeting on Social Welfare and Development (SOMSWD), ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting (ASLOM), Disabled People’s Organisations (DPO), and JAIF Management Team (JMT).
