Japan-ASEAN Cooperation: Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)
07 January 2021 -
Facing the unprecedented challenges caused by COVID-19, Japan has decided to disburse US$1 million to the COVID-19 ASEAN Response Fund, which aims to procure medical supplies and develop vaccines in ASEAN. Furthermore, on the occasion of the Japan-ASEAN Summit Meeting held in November 2020, Japan and ASEAN jointly announced the establishment of the ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases, which is expected to be the hub for the region’s fight against infectious diseases.
Supported by the Government of Japan through Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF), the project Feasibility Study on the Establishment of “ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases” is currently underway.
