Japan-ASEAN Summit to Promote Cooperation in Areas Such as Green Transformation (GX) and Digital Transformation (DX)
The 27th Japan-ASEAN Summit was held in conjunction with the ASEAN Summit on October 10th, chaired by the Lao PDR Prime Minister, Sonexay Siphandone, which held the ASEAN chair in 2024. Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru was in attendance, as well as Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN.
Prime Minister ISHIBA stated that under the Japan-ASEAN Comprehensive Connectivity Initiative, projects are progressing in a wide range of areas, both hard and soft, including digital, transportation infrastructure development, and power connectivity, and that regional financial cooperation is also being promoted. He also emphasized that Japan will promote cooperation to resolve new challenges, such as green transformation (GX) and digital transformation (DX).
ASEAN expressed its gratitude for Japan’s unwavering support for strengthening ASEAN centrality and unity, and expressed its hope for the implementation of specific programs under the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) 3.0, to which Japan contributed $100 million in 2023.
After the meeting, a Chairman’s Statement was issued to report on the results of the meeting.
