Results of the 6th Japan-Singapore Environmental Policy Dialogue
The Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment of the Republic of Singapore held the “6th Japan-Singapore Environmental Policy Dialogue” on Friday, 18 December 2020. High level of the policy dialogue with the attendance of Minister of the Environment Shinjiro Koizumi, Minister of Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu, Jun Yamazaki, Ambassador of Japan to Singapore, and Peter Tan Hai Chuan, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Japan. At the administrative meeting held immediately after, discussions were held on further strengthening of cooperation in the environmental field between the two ministries, with the attendance of Deputy Minister for Global Environment Tomohiro Kondo and Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment Albert Chua. Based on the dialogue between Minister Koizumi and Minister Fu, we have agreed to strengthen cooperation for the realization of decarbonization in the ASEAN region, cooperate in air pollution control, and share information on waste management.
In the field of climate change, while sharing the trends of each other’s measures such as systems and support measures, the Japanese side will contribute to emission reductions in developing countries through the dissemination of GHG reduction technologies, etc., and will be utilized to achieve Japan’s GHG reduction targets. From the Singapore side, the Partnership to Strengthen Transparency for Co-Innovation (PaSTI)” implemented by utilizing the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) was explained, and the importance of capacity building concerning transparency and MRV in ASEAN countries was emphasized, and the possibility of climate change cooperation between Japan and ASEAN was discussed.
