Ambassador Chiba’s Attendance to the Reception of the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action
On 4 April, H.E. CHIBA Akira, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN virtually attended the reception of the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, which was held in a hybrid format in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and delivered opening remarks. Ambassador Chiba underlined that in many parts of the region, landmines, and other explosive remnants of war (ERW) still pose persistent threats to the safety of local people and hinders socio-economic development. Not only the clearance of landmines and other ERW, but also mine risk education and awareness-raising are the indivisible components of mine actions to prevent unnecessary accidents, and to achieve a landmine free world.
The reception was held as part of the project called Enhance Awareness Programs on the Dangers of Mine/Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) among ASEAN Member States, which was supported by the Government of Japan through Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).
