Continuing Research Activity of Eel Catch Sampling Survey After Covid 19 Outbreak

Another update of the Eel Catch Sampling Survey activity under the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) project is conducted in Pelabuhan Ratu site, West Java as the regular survey and in Poso site, Central Sulawesi as initial survey. Inland Fishery Resources Development and Management Department (IFRDMD)’s team represented by Deputy Chief of IFRDMD, Mr Toshiya Suzuki, Mr Yanu Prasetiyo Pamungkas and Ms Yenni Sri Mulyani. Pelabuhan Ratu survey was carried out on 16-19 October 2020. As known before, in Pelabuhan Ratu site the first implementation research protocol was established in August 2020. This survey was aimed to collect monthly data for fish sample and water quality data also to evaluate research design for better quality data. This survey was conducted in both Cimandiri and Cikaso River.

On 22-28 October 2020, IFRDMD’s team continued initial survey in Poso River, Poso, Central Sulawesi. It was purposed to clarify the possibility of sampling site for eel catch sampling survey activity in Poso River. Poso River is well known as fishing ground of Anguilla marmorata. The team accompanied by Departement of Fishery Poso Regency officer, Mr Irwan Thaha Bauda, and local fisher, Mr Iwan Bonesompe, explored expected area to catch eel target by tracing the Poso River. Moreover, the team also collected information about appropriate fishing gear to catch eel based on fishers’ experience. Now, the eel team of IFRDMD is in evaluating process to decide the representative research location in Poso River. In addition, the team also collected tissue sample for DNA analysis in Palu, Central Sulawesi.
