Highlight of JENESYS2024 Activities Reported in April 2025

JENESYS2024 aims to promote mutual trust and understanding among the peoples of Japan, ASEAN Member States, and Timor-Leste, to build a basis for future friendship and cooperation, as well as to encourage an understanding of various aspects of Japan. The project is supported by the Government of Japan through the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF). This is the highlight of JENESYS2024 reported by the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) in April 2025:

Introduction of JENESYS Alumni from the Philippines, Marielle Lat Guillermo

JENESYS2022 Alumni from the Philippines, Marielle Lat Guillermo shares her thoughts after participating in the JENESYS programme. During the pandemic, she was eager to find ways to connect with Japan and after learning more, her interest in Japan deepened. Recently, she visited Japan and was determined to pursue her passion for Japan.

JENESYS 2023 ASEAN-Japan Sports (Rugby) – SDGs Exchange Program

During the JENESYS2023 ASEAN-Japan Sports (Rugby) x SDGs Exchange Programme in Fukuoka held in February, participants played tag rugby alongside teammates from Japan and other ASEAN countries. Everyone had a fantastic time playing, overcoming language barriers, and celebrating cultural differences.

Concert by JENESYS Alumna: Philippines-Tokyo Concert Series

Carell Belandres-Henry, a talented JENESYS alumna from 2009, is continuing her musical journey as a professional pianist in Tokyo.

In 25 June, she will hold a concert that beautifully showcases Filipino music. The concert entitled “Gunita: A Tribute to Maestro Gilopez Kabayao and His Music Legacy” featuring violin virtuoso and two-time NAMCYA first prize winner for violin, Jimmy Tagala, Jr, with collaborating artist Carell Belandres-Henry, JENESYS alumna, Tokyo-based pianist and music educator.

Visit from JENESYS PH Alumni to JICE Office

Carell Belandres-Henry, a professional pianist based in Tokyo and one of the alumni, recently visited us at the JICE office. During her visit, she expressed, “The experience of the JENESYS Program is the starting point for building friendly relations between Japan and the Philippines.” Among her current projects, she is particularly focused on the “Philippine Tokyo Concert Series,” which aims to introduce Filipino music to audiences in Japan. Through music, she hopes to serve as a bridge between the Philippines and Japan.

JENESYS2024: Welcoming delegates from Indonesia

From 28 January to 4 February 2025, JICE welcomed 48 participants from Indonesia to Japan as part of the JENESYS2024 program. The delegations consisted of university students, media professionals, government officials, and diplomats. Several programmes, include Indonesia-Japan Multicultural Society Building Exchange, Indonesia-Japan Politics, Economy, and Culture Exchange / Exchange for Young Diplomats and Local Administrative Officials.
