Regional Workshop on the DNA Barcoding of Common Vascular Plants in the Tropics

Regional Workshop on the DNA Barcoding of Common Vascular Plants in the Tropics
18 April 2022 -

The application of DNA barcoding technology is broad—from biodiversity research to wildlife law enforcement and has the potential to support capacity development for access and benefit-sharing.

The Regional Workshop on the DNA Barcoding of Common Vascular Plants in the Tropics was held on 18-22 April 2022. The workshop is designed to enhance the taxonomic capacity in the region on the standardised GTI DNA barcoding protocols developed by the University of Guelph, Canada and the traditional method of taxonomic identification of vascular plants in the tropics.

On the 2nd day of the workshop, participants experience DNA barcoding first-hand at the University of the Philippines Diliman Institute of Biology’s herbarium and laboratories.

This program is part of the project namely Taxonomic Capacity Building on DNA Barcoding of Common Vascular Plants in the Tropics supported by the Government of Japan through Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).
