Running Preliminary Survey for Eel Catch Sampling Survey Activity in Poso, Central Sulawesi
In order to follow up the previous survey in Poso, Inland Fishery Resources Development and Management Department (IFRDMD) staff carried out preliminary survey for Eel Catch Sampling Survey in Poso, Central Sulawesi on 26 November-1 December 2020. The survey is supported by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) project Development of Stock Assessment Methods and Strengthening of Resources Management Measures for Tropical Anguillid Eel in Southeast Asia. This survey was aimed to ensure the possibility spots for Eel Catch Sampling Survey activity in Poso River and its tributaries. The team visited some areas including the downstream to the upstream. In this occasion, beside pursuing ground check for eel research spot, the team also ascertaining the fishing gear which prepared by the fishers. As derived from earlier survey in November, in Poso site, set net will be to catch glass eel, rattan trap for elver and net trap for yellow and silver eel.
Furthermore, accompanied by Department of Fishery Poso Regency, the team met the fishers who are willing to join this research activity. The team also explained the fishers’ responsibility in this research, how to conduct the research based on manual that was already prepared by IFRDMD team and record the catching data every term of the research, including time, fishing gear, and the result of eel catch. The information gathered from the survey will be useful for the next time as consideration to setting the fishing gear.
