Training for ASEAN Operators Ceremony with Introduction of New Method

On January 14, a commemorative ceremony for the introduction of a new training system using the Internet was held at the ASEAN Regional Training Center (Malaysia), a facility for training Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) operators in 10 ASEAN member states supported by the Japan Coast Guard.

Mr. Masamune Wada (Parliamentary Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) and Mr. Norihiro Takasugi (Director-General of Maritime Traffic Department, Japan Coast Guard) came from Japan, and Mr. Kamarudin Jaffar, Deputy Minister of Transport and Director-General Baharin from Maritime Department of Malaysia, as well as Embassies of ASEAN Member States in Malaysia.

This center is a training facility mainly for training VTS operators, which are lacking capacity in ASEAN countries, in order to ensure navigation safety in the seas around ASEAN. The Center was established by the support and cooperation Japan Coast Guard in July 2017 through Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).
