A Seminar on Disaster Risk Reduction by Integrating Climate Change Projection into Flood and Landslide Risk Assessment
On 23 February 2021 (via video-conference), IGES and the ASEAN Secretariat co-hosted its final seminar for the ASEAN Project on Disaster Risk Reduction by Integrating Climate Change Projection into Flood and Landslide Risk Assessment (ASEAN DRR-CCA), which was supported by the Government of Japan through the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).
The seminar marked the final activity under Phase 1 of the project, which began in October 2018. Previous activities in 2019 and 2020 included a pilot study in Myanmar and Lao PDR, a series of structured training sessions and field survey demonstrating the integration of climate change projection into flood and landslide risk assessments, and case visits to Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Japan which showcased the best available practices for flood and landslide risk management. Key outcomes from the pilot study and case visits included the creation of guidelines and training modules for river basin-wide disaster risk assessment and mapping and planning under potential climate change scenarios and increasing intensity of disaster events.
