Inaugural Ceremony of the Enhanced VTS Operator Training for ASEAN Phase 4
The Malaysia Marine Department (MMD) through the Maritime Transport Training Institute (MATRAIN) is holding the Enhanced VTS Operator Training Project for ASEAN (Phase 4) which starts from 30 October to 1 December 2023 at MATRAIN. The opening ceremony was held at the MATRAIN Auditorium and was officiated online by the Director General of Marine, Malaysia Marine Department, Kapten Mohamad Halim bin Ahmed. This ceremony was also attended by Morioka Hiroshi, the First Secretary (Coast Guard/Maritime Transport) Embassy of Japan, Mr. Nordin bin Mohamadin, the Deputy Director General of Marine (Planning), Mrs. Rahayu binti Rajali the Director of MATRAIN, and the representative Director of BPTBP, Mrs. Nurul Suhana binti Sulaiman. The ceremony began with an opening speech by the Director General of Marine and was accompanied by a speech by a representative of the Japan Coast Guard, First Admiral Tsugo Awai, and a representative of the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), Mr. Omar Frits Eriksson.
This course is organized in collaboration with Japan Aids to Navigation (JANA) and the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF). Participants consist of Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) operators from ASEAN countries. They will attend classes that have been scheduled by the instructors throughout the course and will be recognized as certified VTS operators by the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) after passing the assessment and examination. This course has produced more than 70 operators trained in operating VTS throughout ASEAN.
