JMT Joins the Project End Meeting on Strengthening Anguillid Eel Resources Management

BANGKOK, 30-31 October 2025 - The Project End Meeting for the “Development of Stock Assessment Methods and Strengthening of Resources Management Measures for Tropical Anguillid Eel in Southeast Asia” was successfully held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 30-31 October 2025.

Key objectives included presenting overall project results and achievements, reviewing proposed stock assessment methods and management measures and identifying future collaboration priorities.

The meeting convened representatives from ASEAN Member States National Focal Points, resource persons, the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), the Mission of Japan to , and the JAIF Management Team (JMT). Opening remarks by the Deputy Secretary-General of SEAFDEC, Tahara Koichi and the First Secretary of the Mission of Japan to ASEAN, Kawamoto Yosuke underscored the project’s vital contribution to sustainable resource management and conservation of tropical eels in the ASEAN Region.

This initiative, supported by JAIF since 2017 across two phases, aligns with the ASEAN Food, Agriculture, and Forestry Sectoral Plan 2026-2030 and the ASEAN-Japan MIDORI Cooperation Plan, demonstrating Japan’s commitment to resilient and sustainable agriculture and food systems.
