Opening Ceremony IAI Attachment Programme for Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV) and Timor-Leste Officers

JAKARTA, 17 March 2025 – Fifteen Attachment Officers (AOs) have embarked on their one-year journey at the ASEAN Secretariat.

For the first time in history, Timor-Leste officials are joining the programme alongside officers from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Viet Nam (CLMV). The opening ceremony, held on 17 March 2025, was attended by the Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn; Ambassador of the Mission of Japan to ASEAN, H.E. KIYA Masahiko; Deputy Secretaries-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Economic Community and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community; members of the IAI Task Force from ASEAN Member States; and the JAIF Management Team (JMT). Since 2001, Japan has supported 120 officers from selected ASEAN Member States through the Attachment Programme. Designed to bridge capacity and institutional gaps, the programme enhances the knowledge, skills, and experience of CLMV officials.

Throughout the year, AOs will work with relevant divisions at the ASEAN Secretariat, undergo training in project management, diplomacy, and regional relations, and participate in a study trip to Japan to gain first-hand insights into the ASEAN-Japan strategic partnership.
