Highlight of Japan Model ASEAN Meeting 2026 in February

The first-ever Japan Model ASEAN Meeting (JMAM) 2026, supported by the ASEAN Foundation and funded by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF), is a youth-led simulation conference held on February 19–20, 2026, in Tokyo. Targeting undergraduate and graduate students, this event focuses on regional diplomacy, enabling participants to engage in policy discussions and consensus-building on ASEAN-related issues. The Pre-conference Training Session is Completed
Delegates began by building a solid understanding of Model ASEAN, then moved on to learning effective preparation strategies and how to navigate the conference day with confidence and purpose.
Through dedicated time for team strategy-building, each delegate strengthened their ability to think critically, collaborate, and take initiative. It was truly a meaningful and productive experience for everyone involved.
Coming from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, each delegate has shown remarkable dedication, critical thinking, and passion throughout the conference. From engaging in dynamic debates to drafting thoughtful solutions, their commitment to diplomacy and collaboration truly defines the spirit of JMAM.
JMAM 2026 Opening Ceremony Highlights
The Japan Model ASEAN Meeting 2026 officially commenced in the heart of Tokyo 🇯🇵 with a distinguished Opening Ceremony, graciously opened by H.E. Ambassador Yonetani Koji, Mission of Japan to ASEAN. The ceremony featured a keynote address on Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 delivered by Mr. Zainal Azlan Mohd Nadzir, Minister, DCM from the Embassy of Malaysia, followed by special remarks on the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairmanship 2026 by Mr. Christian L. de Jesus, Deputy Chief of Mission from the Embassy of the Philippines.
The session concluded with the Rules of Procedure delivered by Mr. Kaung Htet Naung, President of the JMAM 2026 Organising Committee.
Following the Opening Ceremony, delegates of the Japan Model ASEAN Meeting 2026 engaged in ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) simulations across three ASEAN pillars. Onsite, participants convened in the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), while the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) sessions were conducted online simultaneously.
The second day of the Japan Model ASEAN Meeting 2026 commenced with Sectoral Ministerial Meetings, where delegates advanced focused discussions on key regional priorities.
The conference then proceeded to the ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting, followed by the ASEAN Summit, allowing delegates to experience ASEAN’s highest-level decision-making through consensus-based dialogue.
Networking Reception and Awarding Ceremony
After the Signing Ceremony, delegates moved from the ASEAN-Japan Centre to Vision Center Hamamatsucho Tokyo for an evening of connection and celebration. Organising Committee members shared what they were most grateful for, while participants reflected on their journey, exchanged insights, and celebrated the bonds formed over two transformative days
