ASEAN-Japan Medical Devices Regulatory Symposium 2025 Report

Co-hosted by the PMDA, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, and the University of Indonesia, the event was held on 14 May.

The symposium drew close to 800 participants from ASEAN Member States’ medical device regulatory authorities, academia and industry. 323 attended in person, the remainder joining online. The event was supported by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).

The event opened with remarks by Ambassador KIYA of the Mission of Japan to ASEAN, followed by remarks from the Office Director of Asia Training Center and International Cooperation (OAIC), ENDO Ayumi, on behalf of Dr. KONDO Emiko, the Senior Executive Director of PMDA, and Vice Rector of University of Indonesia for Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Hamdi Muluk, M.Si, and Vice Minister of Health Prof. Dante Saksono Harbuwono, .

PMDA experts shared presentations on the international harmonization of medical device regulations and regulatory reliance. Representatives from Japan Foundation of Medical Devices Association (JFMDA) introduced recent innovations in CADe/CADx medical devices and explored the use of HMI data in future clinical applications.
