Thailand Updated Information on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction
30 April 2023 -

The Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations submitted an updated information provided in accordance with Article 7, paragraph 2 of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction, covering the period of 1 January – 31 December 2023.

Thailand has been actively supporting the international efforts on Cooperation and Assistance under the framework of the Convention. The 53 pages report summarised Thailand’s cooperation activities in 2022, among others between Thailand and Japan (p.43).

Japan supports Thailand’s mine operations through the funding of the Thai Civilian Deminer Association (TDA), an NGO operating in Thailand. In 2022, TDA submitted the proposal of the Project to Assist Thailand in Fulfilling its Clearance Obligation under the Mine Ban Treaty (PATOM Phase 2) to the ASEAN Secretariat for the funding from the Japanese Government through the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF). The project is due to start in 2023.
