Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS)
In his first term in office, the then Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe, declared at the 10th ASEAN-Japan Summit and the 2nd East Asia Summit, both held in January 2007, that the Government of Japan would implement a youth exchange project which involves approximately 6,000 youths, mainly from EAS Members, each year for five years to lay the foundations for solidarity in Asia. The Government of Japan contributed approximately USD 195,600,000 to JAIF for JENESYS Programme, which mainly included invitations to the youth of ASEAN members and other countries to visit Japan. This project continued for five years from 2007, and approximately 14,200 people were involved from ASEAN Member States. This component was closed in December 2014.
