Cultural heritage of the whole ASEAN region to be released in digital archive. Focus on NTT Data’s efforts

NTT DATA has built a digital archive system that aggregates the cultural heritage of the entire ASEAN region with the ASEAN Cultural Heritage Digital Archive, a digitization project promoted by the ASEAN Secretariat. As the first phase, they released a digital archive of about 160 cultural heritage sites in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.

Digital archiving of historical and cultural heritage of the entire ASEAN region with a population of more than 650 million people. Such a magnificent project is currently underway.

The project, named “ASEAN Cultural Heritage Digital Archive”, digitizes the valuable historical and cultural heritage of ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos). To build a digital archive system that aggregates the cultural heritage of the entire region. Implemented by the ASEAN Secretariat, NTT Data will be responsible for the actual digitization.

The project is implemented with the support of the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF), which was established in 2006 with contributions from the Japanese government. The archived cultural heritage is published on the website “ACHDA”, where you can see not only image, sound and video data, but also 3D data of three-dimensional objects.

“This will be an important step in ASEAN’s primary goal of increasing people’s understanding and appreciation of the region’s rich and diverse cultural heritage,” said Kung Phoak, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Socio-Cultural Community. “As we strive to foster ASEAN identity, we hope that ASEAN citizens using this website will better understand the shared cultural heritage and have a sense of belonging to a larger region.”
