The 36th Japan-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Forum was held online.
The forum was attended by co-chairs, Senior Deputy Foreign Minister, Takeo Mori and Vice Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (HE Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dzung, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam). Government officials from Japan and ASEAN countries attended.
At this forum, both Japan and ASEAN commented on cooperation for the realization of a free and open Indo-Pacific and the establishment of the ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases for the ASEAN-related summit and foreign ministers’ meetings scheduled this year. In addition to the exchange, discussions were held on the regional situation, including the situation in the East China Sea / South China Sea, North Korea, and Myanmar.
Since 1977, the Japan-ASEAN Forum has been held alternately between Japan and the ASEAN coordinating countries with Japan once a year in principle, and is a framework for exchanging opinions at the vice minister level on the relationship between Japan and ASEAN. The current coordinating country for Japan is Vietnam.
A Feasibility Study on the Establishment of “ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases” is supported by the Government of Japan through Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).
