On 14 December 2013, the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit was held in Tokyo, at which the “Vision Statement on ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation” (Vision Statement) and the “Implementation Plan of the Vision Statement” (Implementation Plan) were adopted. In addition, Japanese Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe, pledged that the Government of Japan would establish JAIF 2.0 totaling USD 100,000,000 to strengthen cooperation for ASEAN integration. JAIF 2.0 component is intended to support activities to achieve the objectives of the Vision Statement and its Implementation Plan adopted at the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit. Priority areas under JAIF 2.0 are: maritime cooperation; disaster management; counter-terrorism and transnational crime including cybercrime; and ASEAN Connectivity. Projects in other areas may also be undertaken if they contribute to the Vision Statement and its revised Implementation Plan objectives. Additional contributions were made by Japan in 2019 (approximately USD 8,900,000), 2020 (USD 9,500,000 and USD 49,800,000), and 2022 (approximately USD 2,500,000).
