JENESYS 2.0
During a January 2013 visit to Indonesia, Japanese Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe announced a new youth exchange programme between Japan and ASEAN Member States, among other countries: JENESYS 2.0. The Government of Japan contributed approximately USD 72,600,000 in 2013 for the implementation of the programme where approximately 30,000 youths from the Asian/Oceanian region had opportunities to participate in related programmes. After the commencement of this programme in FY 2012, the ultimate aim is to revitalise the Japanese economy by promoting interest in Japan, increasing visitor numbers, and expanding global understanding of Japan’s strengths and attractions, including the “Cool Japan”. Under JENESYS 2.0, approximately 10,700 youths from ASEAN Member States were involved. This component was closed in October 2016.
