As the continuation of the JENESYS programme, the Government of Japan has committed to supporting the implementation of JENESYS2022. Approximately 3.8 million US dollars was contributed to the programme that will engage about 800 youths from Japan, ASEAN Member States, and Timor Leste.

Consistent with its objective since JENESYS2018, the programme aims to promote mutual trust and understanding among the peoples of Japan, ASEAN Member States, and Timor-Leste, to build a basis for future friendship and cooperation, as well as to encourage an understanding of various aspects of Japan. Moreover, it is hoped that the youth attending this programme will convey information about Japan to the general public of their respective countries, once the programme is completed. It contributes to the implementation of the ASEAN Work Plan on Youth 2021-2025 and to People-to-People Connectivity, one of the thematic areas outlined in the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
