Banda Aceh city Receives Appreciation from IGES Following the Success of Program Kampung Iklim (ProKlim)
Gampong Peurada in Banda Aceh successfully completed the “Program Kampung Iklim” (ProKlim) or Climate Village Programme, receiving high praise from the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) Japan during their monitoring and evaluation on December 21-22, 2024. The village leader, Marzuki Ibrahim, expressed gratitude for the smooth execution of the program, crediting the hard work and collaboration of various stakeholders, particularly the Kelompok Swadaya Masyarakat (KSM) or Self-supporting Community Group Gampong Peurada. The efforts of community members, including Ibu Ainal and Cek Is, in showcasing Aceh’s culture also received appreciation.
One of IGES team leaders, Shaw, commended Gampong Peurada for exceeding expectations, noting that it ranked among the top 3% of ASEAN villages in terms of program achievements. The program, funded by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF), was one of only two proposals from Indonesia accepted this year. Dr. Sulastri MSi, the head of KSM ProKlim, highlighted the program’s dual benefits of climate change mitigation and the creation of environmentally-friendly businesses with high commercial potential. The success of the ProKlim program demonstrates the village’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection, making Gampong Peurada a model sustainable village in ASEAN.
