6 October 2017 -

On the 2nd October 2017 in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, an agreement was signed between Japan and three coastal countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore) concerning the implementation of joint hydrographic survey in the Malacca and Singapore Straits. This will launch the full-scale four-year project “Joint Hydrographic Survey of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore” utilizing the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF). With this project, in the international strait where 80% of Japan’s imported crude oil passes, improvement of navigation safety and stabilization of maritime trade are expected to be realized by using the JAIF and Japan’s technology.
