Japan maintains its influence on ASEAN by utilizing Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) . At the Japan-ASEAN Summit Meeting held in December 2005, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi (at that time) pledged a total of JPY 7.5 billion to ASEAN leaders to support ASEAN efforts centering on correcting regional disparities within the ASEAN region. Based on this, JAIF was established on March 27, 2006. As of September 30, 2019, a total of USD 683 million has been contributed, and ASEAN integration is supported from various perspectives in terms of politics, security, economics, and culture to support ASEAN integration. Specific projects include “Promoting SME Competitiveness through ASEAN Business Incubator Network- ABINet” and “Assessment of the Legal and Regulatory Frameworks on Electronic Commerce in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Viet Nam.”
